After months of speculation, an announcement posted on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's official website confirmed the news the world has been waiting for: Kate is pregnant!
The announcement (which has since caused the page to crash) read:
"Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby.
The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news.
The Duchess was admitted this afternoon to King Edward VII Hospital in Central London with Hyperemesis Gravidarum.
As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter.
Hyperemesis Gravidarum is very acute morning sickness, which requires supplementary hydration and nutrients."
Despite the announcement being accompanied by the more sombre news of Kate's hospitalisation, it has been met with the flood of well wishes from around the world (the British Prime Minister David Cameron was quick to tweet his congratulations to the couple).
The pregnancy is sure to be one of the most watched in history with every aspect – from her
maternity style to her choice of
baby products – set to spark a flurry of trends.
Her due date is yet to be released.
